The History of Akwa Ibom Airport (QUO)
Akwa Ibom Airport is an airport in Nigeria that serves the city of Uyo, the state capital of Akwa Ibom State. The airport is situated 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) to the northwest of the river port of Oron and 24 kilometers (15 miles) to the southeast of Uyo.
Construction on the airport’s first phase began in 2006 and continued through 2009. It was finished in 2009.
The Akwa Ibom Airport opened on September 23, 2009, and on December 2, 2009, Arik Air began conducting flights to Abuja and Lagos.
This event marked the beginning of the first regularly scheduled passenger service at the airport.
The completion of the maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility, the construction of an international terminal, and the construction of extra taxiways were all part of the second construction phase, which began in 2012.
At a banquet on November 24, 2018, to celebrate the 80th birthday of former Governor Obong Victor Attah, Governor Udom Emmanuel renamed the airport after Obong Victor Attah.
The airport, formerly known as Akwa Ibom International Airport, is called Victor Attah International Airport.
